- Tendency to eat far beyond capacity for digestion (bulimia).
- Great appetite; craving for meat, pickles, radishes, turnips, artichokes, coarse food.
- Burning and distention of stomach and abdomen with palpitation.
- Cold shivering, as if blood were ice-water (Acon.). Cold water feeling between shoulders (Amm-mur.).
- Right lung and liver feel small and hard.
- Sore feeling in fundus of uterus, better by pressure; uterine displacement.
- Pain in right shoulder-blade with constipation and burning in rectum.
Abies NigraBlack Spruce
- Dyspeptic troubles of the aged, with functional heart symptoms; also after tea or tobacco.
- Sensation as if a hard-boiled egg had lodged in cardiac end of stomach.
- Pain in stomach always comes on after eating.
- Total loss of appetite in the morning but great craving for food at noon and night.
- Dull during the day, awake at night. Waterbrash succeeds cough.
AbrotanumSouthernwood
- A very useful remedy in marasmus, especially of lower extremities.
- Ill effects of suppressed conditions, especially in gouty subjects.
- Metastasis. Tuberculous peritonitis. Exudative pleurisy and other exudative processes.
- Alternation of hemorrhoids with rheumatism; aggravation of piles when rheumatism improves.
- Nosebleed and hydrocele in boys. Angioma of the face.
- Oozing from umbilicus. Stomach feels as if swimming in water; feels cold.
- Great weakness after influenza (Kali phos.).
AbsinthiumCommon Wormwood
- A perfect picture of epileptiform seizure; nervous tremors precede the attacks.
- Poisoning by mushrooms. Kleptomania.
- Loss of memory; forgets what has recently happened. Wants nothing to do with anybody. Brutal.
- Vertigo, with tendency to fall backward. Spasmodic facial twitching.
- Premature menopause.
Acalypha IndicaIndian Nettle
- Incipient phthisis, with hard racking cough, bloody expectoration, arterial haemorrhage, but no febrile disturbance.
- All pathological haemorrhages having notably a morning aggravation.
- Blood bright red and not profuse in the morning; dark and clotted in the afternoon.
- Very weak in the morning, gains strength during the day.
- Spluttering diarrhoea with forcible expulsion of noisy flatus, bearing-down pains and tenesmus.
AcetanilidumAntifebrinum
- Depresses the heart, respiration and blood pressure; lowers the temperature.
- Used as a sedative and antipyretic for various forms of headache and neuralgia.
- Cyanosis; the blood turns chocolate-brown; great weakness and collapse from over-use.
Acetic AcidGlacial Acetic Acid
- Has the power to liquify albuminous and fibrinous deposits.
- Epithelial cancer, internally and locally (W. Owens). Epithelioma of lip.
- Sycosis with nodules and formations in the joints.
- Hyperchlorhydria and gastralgia; violent burning pain in stomach and chest, followed by coldness of skin and cold sweat on forehead.
- Anaemia of nursing mothers. Pain in back, relieved only by lying on abdomen.
- Antidotal to all anaesthetic vapors. Counteracts sausage poisoning.
- Not to be repeated too often, except in croup (Boericke).
Acidum SalicylicumSalicylic Acid
- Retinitis after influenza, also albuminuric; tinnitus aurium and deafness.
- Meniere’s disease; the patient reels, tends to fall to the left; roaring in the ears with deafness.
- Gastro-intestinal derangements, especially in children; stools like green frog’s spawn. Acute articular rheumatism.
Aconitum NapellusMonkshood
- Physical and mental restlessness and fright are the most characteristic manifestations.
- First remedy in inflammation and inflammatory fevers.
- Thinks his thoughts come from the stomach; parts of the body abnormally thick. Feels as if what had just been done was a dream.
- Burning headache, as if brain were moved by boiling water (Ind.).
- Bright red hypothenar eminences on both hands. Hot hands and cold feet.
- Anxiety always on beginning to urinate.
- One cheek red, the other pale (Cham., Ipec.). Insomnia of the aged.
- Acids, wine, coffee, lemonade and acid fruits modify its action.
- Not indicated in malarial and low fevers, hectic and pyaemic conditions, or in inflammations when they localize.
- Complementary: Coffea, Sulph. Sulphur may be considered a chronic Aconite.
- Constantly moves the lower jaw as if chewing.
- Bitter taste of everything except water; abdominal symptoms better after warm soup.
Actaea SpicataBaneberry
- A rheumatic remedy, especially of the small joints. Wrist-rheumatism; wrist swollen, red, worse any motion.
- Pulsations over whole body, especially liver and renal region.
- Sudden lassitude after talking or eating.
- Shortness of breath on exposure to cold air.
- Ebullition of blood to head excited by drinking coffee.
- Violent pain in upper jaw, running from teeth through malar bones to temples.
Adonis VernalisPheasant’s Eye
- A heart medicine after rheumatism or influenza, or Bright’s disease, where heart muscle is in fatty degeneration.
- Regulates the pulse and increases the power of contraction of the heart.
- Most valuable in cardiac dropsy. Cardiac asthma (Queb.).
- Oily pellicle on urine. Stomach symptoms better out of doors.
- Mitral and aortic regurgitation. Fatty heart. Rheumatic endocarditis.
Aesculus HippocastanumHorse Chestnut
- Torpor and congestion of the liver and portal system, with constipation.
- Haemorrhoids with absence of actual constipation; sharp shooting pains up the back.
- Early stages of atrophic pharyngitis in dried-up, bilious subjects; veins in pharynx distended and tortuous.
- Burning in anus with chills up and down back.
- Constant throbbing behind symphysis pubis in the female.
- Discharge of prostatic fluid at stool. Hands and feet become red after washing.
- Cough depending on hepatic congestion.
Aethusa CynapiumFool’s Parsley
- Marked intolerance of milk; regurgitation of food about an hour after eating.
- Children during dentition and summer complaint, unable to digest milk.
- Symptoms set in with violence. Sufferings render patient speechless.
- Dozing after vomiting or stool; child so exhausted it falls asleep at once.
- Hair feels pulled. Vertigo with drowsiness and palpitation; head hot after vertigo ceases.
- Head symptoms better by expelling flatus (Sang.) and by stool.
- Photophobia; swelling of Meibomian glands. Eyes drawn downward during convulsion.
Agaricus MuscariusToadstool / Bug Agaric
- Corresponds to various forms of cerebral excitement rather than congestion; produces more vertigo and delirium than alcohol.
- Loquacity; delirium begins with paroxysms of yawning. Singing, shouting, muttering; rhymes and prophesies.
- Symptoms appear diagonally, as right arm and left leg.
- Sensation as if pierced by needles of ice. Pains accompanied by cold, numbness and tingling.
- Vertigo from sunlight and on walking. Head in constant motion.
- Reading difficult, as type seems to move, to swim. Double vision.
- Twitching of lids and eyeballs. Nosebleed in old people.
- Cough ends in a sneeze. Yawning followed by involuntary laughter.
Agnus CastusThe Chaste Tree
- A prominent remedy for sprains and strains. Gnawing itching in all parts, especially eyes.
- Sadness with impression of speedy death.
- Tachycardia caused by tobacco in neurotic young men.
- Hysterical palpitation with nosebleed. Illusion of smell: herrings, musk.
- Nausea with sensation as if intestines were pressed downwards; wants to support bowels.
Ailanthus GlandulosaChinese Sumach
- The skin appears livid or purplish; face dark as mahogany, hot.
- Throat swollen, purple, livid; semi-conscious, delirious; weak pulse; general torpor and prostration.
- Symptoms remarkably alike to malignant scarlatina; adynamia characterizes all its conditions.
- Miliary, livid rash. Raynaud’s disease.
AlfalfaMedicago Sativa / California Clover
- Acts as a fat producer; corrects tissue waste. Toning effect on nutrition and mental vigor.
- Appetite impaired but chiefly increased, even to bulimia; must eat frequently.
- Deficient lactation; increases quantity and quality of milk in nursing mothers.
- Diabetes insipidus and phosphaturia. Chronic appendicitis.
Allium CepaRed Onion
- Fluent coryza with headache, cough and hoarseness; sneezing especially on entering a warm room.
- Singers’ cold, worse in warm room and toward evening, better in open air.
- Sensation of glowing heat on different parts of the body.
- Headache ceases during menses; returns when flow disappears.
- Increased secretion of urine with coryza.
- Hacking cough on inspiring cold air; tickling in larynx; as if larynx were split or torn.
- Bad effects from getting feet wet.
Allium SativumGarlic
- Has vaso-dilatory properties; arterial hypotension after twenty to forty drop doses of tincture.
- High livers; patients who eat a great deal more, especially meat, than they drink.
- Belongs to the Bryonia group (Teste): applicable to meat-eaters rather than exclusive vegetarians.
- Pain in hip, in psoas and iliac muscles. Pulmonary tuberculosis.
- Complementary: Arsenic. Antidote: Lycopod.
Aloe SocotrinaSocotrine Aloes
- An excellent remedy to re-establish physiological equilibrium after much dosing, where disease and drug symptoms are mixed.
- Richest remedy in symptoms of portal congestion; rectal symptoms usually determine the choice.
- Sense of insecurity in rectum when passing flatus. Diarrhoea after beer.
- Sensation of plug between symphysis pubis and os coccygis, with urging to stool.
- Aversion to meat; longing for juicy things. Marked redness of lips.
- Lumbago alternating with headache and piles.
- When constipated, dissatisfied and angry with himself.
Alstonia ScholarisDita Bark
- Malarial diseases with diarrhoea, dysentery, anaemia, feeble digestion.
- A tonic after exhausting fevers.
- Camp diarrhoea, bloody stool, dysentery; diarrhoea from bad water and malaria.
AlumenCommon Potash Alum
- Hardening of tissues of tongue, rectum, uterus, etc.; ulcers with indurated base.
- Marble-like masses pass, but rectum still feels full.
- Mental paresis; dysphagia especially to liquids.
- Tendency to induration of neck of uterus and mammary glands.
- The very highest potencies have proved efficacious.
AluminaOxide of Aluminum / Argilla
- Disposition to colds in head and eructation in spare, dry, thin subjects.
- Delicate children, products of artificial baby foods.
- Confused as to personal identity. Hasty, hurried. Time passes slowly. Variable mood.
- Suicidal tendency when seeing knife or blood.
- Abnormal cravings: chalk, charcoal, dry food, tea-grounds. Potatoes disagree.
- No desire to eat; can swallow but small morsels at a time. Constriction of oesophagus.
- Evacuation preceded by painful urging long before stool, then straining at stool.
- Pain in arms and fingers, as if hot iron penetrated. Legs feel asleep when sitting cross-legged.
- Spinal degeneration and paralysis of lower limbs.
Alumina Silicata
- Deep-acting remedy for chronic complaints of brain, spine and nerves.
- Constriction is a marked general symptom, also constriction of orifices.
- Formication, numbness, pain in all limbs.
Ambra GriseaAmbergris (Whale Secretion)
- Great remedy for the aged, with impairment of all functions, weakness, coldness and numbness of single parts.
- Cannot do anything in the presence of others. One-sided complaints call for it.
- Music aggravates symptoms; rush of blood to head when listening to music.
- Time passes slowly. Dwells upon unpleasant things.
- Distention of stomach and abdomen after midnight.
- Nymphomania; itching of pudendum with soreness and swelling.
- Palpitation with pressure in chest as from a lump lodged there; better slow motion in open air.
Ammonium CarbonicumCarbonate of Ammonia
- Great aversion to water; cannot bear to touch it. Uncleanness in bodily habits.
- Forgetful, ill-humored, gloomy during stormy weather.
- Talking and hearing others talk affects greatly. Heaviness in all organs.
- Cannot breathe through nose; snuffles of children. Diphtheria when nose is stopped up.
- Pressing teeth together sends shocks through head, eyes and ears.
- Bleeding piles, worse during menses. Erysipelas in the aged with brain symptoms.
- Eczema in the bends of extremities, between legs, about anus and genitals.
- Of use in poisoning by charcoal fumes.
Ammonium MuriaticumSal Ammoniac
- Especially adapted to fat and sluggish patients with respiratory troubles.
- Aggravations peculiarly divided by region: head and chest worse mornings, abdominal in afternoon, limbs and skin in the evening.
- Excessive fatty deposit around the abdomen. Thirst for lemonade.
- Green mucous stools alternate with constipation; navel pain during menses.
- Icy coldness between shoulders, not relieved by warm covering, followed by itching.
- Contraction of hamstring tendons. Sciatica worse sitting, better lying.
- Cough with profuse salivation, associated with catarrhs and liver affections.
AnacardiumMarking Nut
- Profound melancholy and hypochondriasis, with tendency to use violent language; irresistible desire to swear and curse.
- Hallucinations; thinks he is possessed of two persons or wills. Absence of all moral restraint.
- Brain-fag; impaired memory; absent-mindedness; fear of examination in students.
- Clairaudient; hears voices far away or of the dead. Senile dementia.
- Objects appear too far off. Pressure like a plug on upper orbit.
- Coryza with palpitation, especially in the aged.
Anagallis ArvensisScarlet Pimpernel
- Favors expulsion of splinters; softens flesh and destroys warts.
- Itching; dry, bran-like eruption, especially on hands and fingers; palms especially affected.
- Urine passes in several streams; must press before it passes.
Angustura VeraBark of Galipea Cusparia
- Irresistible desire for coffee, a characteristic symptom.
- Cracking in joints. Caries of long bones; very painful ulcers affecting the bone.
- Cramp-like pain in the muscles when opening the mouth; pain in articulation of jaw, as if fatigued by chewing.
Anilinum
- Face has a purple hue. Tumors of the urinary passages.
AnthracinumAnthrax Poison (Nosode)
- A great remedy in epidemic spleen diseases of domestic animals and in septic inflammation, carbuncles and malignant ulcers.
- Haemorrhages, black, thick, tar-like, rapidly decomposing, from any orifice.
- Bad effects from inhaling foul odors.
Antimonium ArsenicosumArsenite of Antimony
- Emphysema with excessive dyspnoea and cough, with much mucous secretion; worse on eating and lying down.
- Pleurisy, especially of the left side, with exudation, and pericarditis with effusion.
- Catarrhal pneumonia associated with influenza. Inflammation of eyes and oedema of face.
Antimonium CrudumBlack Sulphide of Antimony
- All the conditions are aggravated by heat and cold bathing.
- An absence of pain, where it could be expected, is noticeable.
- Child cross and contradictive; cannot bear to be touched or looked at.
- Headache with great loss of hair. Gout with gastric symptoms.
- Nostrils chapped and covered with crusts; eczema of nostrils, sore, cracked, scurfy.
- Tongue coated thick white, as if whitewashed.
- Diarrhoea alternates with constipation, especially in old people. Continual drowsiness in old people.
- Complementary: Sulphur. Antidote: Hepar.
- Gastric and intestinal complaints from bread and pastry, acids, sour wine, cold bathing, over-heating and hot weather.
Antimonium TartaricumTartar Emetic
- Irresistible inclination to sleep with nearly all complaints.
- Great rattling of mucus in chest with little expectoration; coarse rales.
- Gastric affections of drunkards and gouty subjects.
- Incessant quivering of chin and lower jaw (Gelsem.).
- Thirst for cold water, little and often; desire for apples, fruits and acids generally.
- Warts on glans penis. Sensation of heavy weight at the coccyx, dragging downward.
- Pustular eruption leaving bluish-red mark. The lower potencies sometimes aggravate.
Apis MellificaThe Honey-Bee
- Produces serous inflammation with effusion; membranes of brain, heart, pleura.
- Oedema of larynx; feels as if he could not draw another breath.
- Stinging, burning pains; better cold, worse heat. Thirstless.
- Stupor alternating with erotic mania. Sensation of dying.
- Menses suppressed, with cerebral and head symptoms, especially in young girls.
- Coldness of tip of nose. Sensation of fish-bone in throat.
- Cannot urinate without a stool. Styes; also prevents their recurrence.
- Craving for milk (Rhus). Sleeps after the fever paroxysm.
- Complementary: Natrum mur (the ‘chronic’ of Apis); also Baryta carb if lymphatics involved.
Apocynum CannabinumIndian Hemp
- A diminished frequency of the pulse is a prime indication.
- One of our most efficient remedies in dropsies: ascites, anasarca, hydrothorax.
- Digestive complaints of Bright’s disease, with nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, difficult breathing; great thirst.
- Excessive vomiting; food or water immediately ejected.
- Mitral and tricuspid regurgitation. Acute alcoholism. Renal dropsy.
Aralia RacemosaAmerican Spikenard
- Asthma and dry cough coming on after first sleep; feels as if a foreign body were in throat.
- Least current of air causes sneezing, with copious watery, excoriating nasal discharge of salty taste.
- Worse about 1 p.m. (cough).
Aranea DiademaPapal-Cross Spider
- All symptoms characterized by periodicity, coldness, and great susceptibility to dampness.
- Hydrogenoid constitution (Nat-sulph., Dulc., Thuja).
- Coldness not relieved by anything; coldness with pain in long bones.
- Wakes at night with hands feeling twice their natural size.
- Confusion, better by smoking in open air. Chilly day and night; always worse during rain.
Argentum MetallicumSilver
- Chief action centered on the articulations, bones, cartilages and ligaments.
- Hurried feeling; time passes slowly; melancholy.
- Total loss of voice in professional singers; easy expectoration like boiled starch.
- Dull paroxysmal neuralgia over left side, gradually increasing and ceasing suddenly.
- Legs weak and trembling, worse descending stairs.
- Seminal emissions without sexual excitement.
Argentum NitricumNitrate of Silver
- Head symptoms often determine the choice. Thinks his understanding will and must fail.
- Impulsive; wants to do things in a hurry (Lilium). Errors of perception: sensation as if a part were expanding.
- Upper-abdominal affections brought on by undue mental exertion.
- Intolerance of heat. Great craving for sweets; desire for cheese and salt.
- Ulceration of stomach with radiating pain.
- Suffocative cough, as if from a hair in throat. Sensation of a splinter in throat on swallowing.
- Gastralgia at beginning of menses. Spine sensitive with nocturnal pains; posterior spinal sclerosis.
- Urine passes unconsciously, day and night; the last drops burn and smart.
- Emotional disturbances bring on hemicranial attacks; the head feels expanded.
Arnica MontanaLeopard’s Bane
- After traumatic injuries, over-use of any organ, strains.
- Traumatism of grief, remorse, or sudden realization of financial loss. Agoraphobia (fear of space).
- Unconscious; when spoken to answers correctly, but relapses.
- Says nothing ails him; wants to be left alone. Bed feels too hard.
- Feeling as if stomach were pressing against spine. Fetid vomiting; taste as from bad eggs.
- Must lie down after every stool.
- Angina pectoris; pain especially severe in left elbow.
- Acne indurata, characterized by symmetry in distribution.
Arsenicum AlbumArsenious Acid
- Great anguish and restlessness; changes place continually. Fear, fright and worry.
- Great exhaustion after the slightest exertion.
- Gives quiet and ease to the last moments of life when given in high potency.
- Maintains the system under the stress of malignancy regardless of location.
- Thinks it useless to take medicine. Anxious fear of death; thinks it is incurable.
- Burning pains, better by heat and warmth (haemorrhoids burn like fire, relieved by heat).
- Ill effects of vegetable diet, melons and watery fruits.
- Dyspepsia from vinegar, acids, ice-cream, ice-water, tobacco.
- Cough worse after midnight, worse lying on back. Pulse more rapid in morning (Sulph.).
- Sleeps with hands over head; dreams full of care and fear.
- Everything swallowed seems to lodge in the oesophagus, which feels closed so that nothing will pass.
- Neuralgia of the teeth; they feel long and very sore, worse after midnight, better from warmth.
- The irritable heart of smokers and tobacco-chewers; a weak feeling in the abdomen after urinating.
Arsenicum BromatumBromide of Arsenic
- Acne rosacea, with violet papules on the nose, worse in the spring.
- Acne in young people; the face greasy, with pustular eruptions.
- Diabetes; chronic malarial cachexia.
Arsenicum IodatumIodide of Arsenic
- Swelling of tissues within the nose; thin, watery, irritating, excoriating discharge from nares.
- Hay fever. Senile heart; myocarditis and fatty degeneration.
- Closely allied to the manifestations of tuberculosis; drenching night-sweats.
- Epithelioma of the lip. Cancer of breast after ulceration has set in.
- Marked exfoliation of skin in large scales, leaving a raw exuding surface beneath. Psoriasis.
Artemisia VulgarisMugwort
- Petit mal; epilepsy without aura; several convulsions close together, after fright or masturbation.
- Somnambulism; gets up at night and works, remembers nothing in the morning (Kali phos.).
- Colored light produces dizziness.
- Profuse sweat, smelling like garlic. Said to act better when given with wine.
Arum TriphyllumJack-in-the-Pulpit
- Acridity is the keynote of its action. Raw, bloody surfaces anywhere.
- Constant picking at the nose until it bleeds.
- Bores head in pillow; headache from too-warm clothing, from hot coffee.
- Corners of mouth sore and cracked. Raw feeling at roof of palate. Impetigo contagiosa.
AsafoetidaGum of the Stinkasand
- Ball rises in throat; sensation as if peristaltic motion were reversed, oesophagus driven from stomach to throat.
- Diarrhoea extremely offensive, with meteorism and regurgitation of food.
- Caries of nasal bones (Aurum). Pressive pain from within outward.
- Suppressed skin symptoms produce nervous disorders. Deficient milk with over-sensitiveness.
Asarum EuropaeumEuropean Snake-root
- Sensibility increased, even from mere imagination.
- Scratching on silk, linen or paper is unbearable.
- Desire for alcoholic drinks. Nervous deafness and asthenopia.
AspidospermaQuebracho
- The digitalis of the lungs (Hale); stimulates the respiratory centers and increases the oxygen in the blood.
- Want of breath during exertion; pulmonary stenosis; cardiac asthma; uraemic dyspnoea.
- Removes temporary obstruction to the oxidation of the blood by increasing the elimination of carbonic acid.
Asterias RubensRed Starfish
- Flabby, with red face. Disposition to pimples at adolescence.
- Has an unquestioned influence over cancer of the breast.
- Left breast feels as if pulled inward; pain extends over inner arm to end of little finger.
- Cancer mammae even in ulcerative stage; acute, lancinating pain; axillary glands swollen, hard and knotted.
- Colic and other sufferings cease with appearance of flow.
- Psoriasis and herpes zoster worse left arm and chest.
Aurum MetallicumMetallic Gold
- Hopeless, despondent; every opportunity sought for self-destruction. Ennui. Anthropophobia.
- Constant rapid questioning without waiting for reply; cannot do things fast enough.
- Arterio-sclerosis, high blood pressure; nightly paroxysms of pain behind sternum.
- Knobby tip of nose. Horrible odor from nose and mouth.
- Extreme photophobia. Double vision; upper half of objects invisible.
- Atrophy of testicles in boys. Caries of ossicula and mastoid.
- High blood pressure; valvular lesions of arterio-sclerotic nature (Aurum 30).
- Hopeless, despondent, with a great desire to commit suicide; a feeling of self-condemnation and utter worthlessness.
- Orgasm, as if the blood were boiling in all the veins; all the blood seems to rush from the head to the lower limbs.
- Profound depression; life is a burden; a longing for death; ailments from grief, disappointed love and prolonged anxiety.
Aurum Muriaticum NatronatumSodium Chloraurate
- Has more power over uterine tumors than any other remedy (Burnett).
- High blood pressure due to disturbed function of nervous mechanism. Arterio-sclerosis.
- Old cases of rheumatism and gouty pains.
Avena SativaCommon Oat
- Nervous exhaustion, sexual debility, and bad effects of the morphine habit.
- Best tonic for debility after exhausting diseases.
- Nervous headache at menstrual period, with burning at top of head.
- Nerve tremors of the aged; chorea, paralysis agitans, epilepsy.
- Inability to keep the mind on any one subject.

BacillinumTubercular Nosode
- Many forms of chronic non-tubercular disease influenced favorably, especially when bronchorrhoea and dyspnoea are present.
- Respiratory pyorrhoea. Tubercular meningitis.
- Favors falling off of tartar of teeth. Eczema of eyelids.
- Glands of neck enlarged and tender. Sudden diarrhoea before breakfast.
- Often relieves congestion of the lungs, paving the way for other remedies in tuberculosis.
BadiagaFresh-water Sponge
- Soreness of muscles and integuments; worse motion and friction of clothes, with sensitiveness to cold.
